History
of Krip-Hop:
Krip-Hop started out as a hobby of Leroy Moore. As a Black
disabled man Leroy questioned the music industry on the
representation of disabled artists and being a music lover
Leroy wanted to know where are musicians with disabilities,
especially Black and other musicians of color with
disabilities. After finding out that there were and is many
disabled\blind Blues artists he went onto Doo Whoop, Soul
and ended up with Hip-Hop. His library started to blossom
with books on disabled musicians especially those of color.
At this time of his research he was involved with a radio
show collective on KPFA in Berkeley, CA. So the collective
agreed with his ideal to produce a three part series on
Hip-Hop artists with disabilities. After the series, he
wanted to do more.
Leroy put out a call to disabled Hip-Hop artists through
the internet and got back a wonderful responds. The process
was to email him one track that had no swearing, no putting
down women and had to have good social justice or positive
lyrics concerning disability. He also asked to post mail
him their CDs so he could play their music on the radio and
in his workshops.
The energy and quality of the music now known as Krip Hop
spurred Leroy to create a mixtape and use his advocacy
skills to promote what is now the Krip Hop nation.
